You are probably thinking that is a pretty big call, but I think I got it!
When designing the perfect breakfast, you need to take a LOT into consideration. The perfect breakfast needs to keep you full until lunch time, taste great so you look forward to it and be ultra healthy. These oats tick all 3 boxes, they just don’t necessarily look like they do! Ha.
The breakfast contains a slow releasing carbohydrate to keep you full for longer, a high level of protein, magnesium, calcium and potassium, a nice big testosterone-boosting dose of “good fats” that are essential for any diet, but especially important for men over 30 (cough me cough) and finally a HUGE amount of antioxidants from the berry/cinnamon/chia combo. Wherever possible, I recommend purchasing organic, local ingredients to try and keep this as fresh as possible. If that is not a possibility due to geography or the current season, then frozen is a good alternative. Not as nutritious as fresh and local, but still MUCH better than toast or cereal.
If I know I am going to be getting a good amount of fat in my other meals for the day, I will sometimes choose a good vegan protein powder instead of the nut butter, but 95% of the time, it is the nut butter that keeps me coming back for more!
If you want to improve your quality of life, this breakfast is a must eat inclusion into your diet…
- ½ cup oats
- ½ banana
- 1 cup blueberries
- ½ cup strawberries
- ¼ cup raisins
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon peanut/almond butter (or 1 serving protein powder)
- Bring 1 cup of water to boil in a saucepan over a high heat
- Add the oats and reduce the heat to low
- Add the banana, I usually mash this in with the oats
- Add the blueberries, strawberries and chia seeds and simmer for a few minutes. Make sure you don’t simmer for too long, otherwise it will be too dry
- When desired consistency is reached, remove from heat, add the peanut butter and stir in then add the cinnamon and raisins and give one final stir
- Get it into ya!
I have just read an article about how the Rolling Stones are the first rock band in the World to play Cuba. Whilst it is amazing that bands are now playing in Cuba and regardless of how much I do love the Stones, they were NOT the first. Audioslave take that honour with a free gig they did in 2005 in Havana. If you don’t count that, because it was free, then The Manic Street Preachers did a proper gig a few years later!
But it reminded me of Audioslave, a band I feel are highly underrated. Tom Morello will always be a hero to me and whilst Audioslave never reached the heights of the members previous bands, it is still a very important band to have in your collection.
